Advancing Global Service Research through Meet-the-Editor Sessions and Paper Development Workshops
The Journal of Service Research (JSR) was delighted to host two highly successful outreach and paper development events in China this summer, reflecting the journal’s strong commitment to engaging with its rapidly growing author community in Asia, especially China.
JSR at Fudan University, Shanghai
On June 23, 2026, JSR Co-Editor Professor Beibei Dong visited Fudan University for a JSR Meet-the-Editor session and focused paper development workshop. The event was organized and hosted by the School of Management, Fudan University, under the leadership of Professor Xiucheng Fan, JSR’s first Associate Editor in China, and was moderated by Professor Rongwei Chu, Associate Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Marketing.
The workshop brought together approximately 20–30 researchers from leading universities in Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin, and other regions of China. Six manuscripts were discussed in depth, with developmental feedback focused on research positioning, theoretical contribution, service relevance, and publication potential. The conversations were lively, constructive, and highly engaging, and participants found the workshop especially valuable for strengthening their research ideas and preparing their work for leading service.

JSR at CMIC 2026, Dalian
On July 5, 2026, JSR held a Meet-the-Editor session and Paper Development Workshop at the China Marketing International Conference (CMIC) in Dalian, Liaoning. As a major international marketing conference, CMIC plays an important role in facilitating scholarly exchange between Chinese researchers and overseas scholars. This year, it was hosted by Dongbei University of Finance and Economics
The JSR session was a great success, with a full room of participants. Professor Yonggui Wang, President of Zhejiang Gongshang University and Academic Director for Service Marketing at the Chinese Marketing Association of Universities (CMAU), delivered engaging and insightful welcome remarks, warmly welcoming JSR to China and highlighting the journal’s prestige and reputation among Chinese scholars. Professor Florian von Wangenheim, Editor-in-Chief of JSR, prepared a prerecorded video message sharing the journal’s mission and editorial philosophy. Professor Beibei Dong, JSR Co-Editor and Professor of Marketing at Lehigh University, attended the event in person and delivered an editorial presentation offering first-hand, actionable advice on publishing high-quality papers in JSR.
The paper development workshop was moderated by Professor Na Wang from Zhejiang Gongshang University. Professor Xiaoling Li, Professor at Chongqing University and Vice Dean of the Graduate School, and Professor Beibei Dong served as discussants. The workshop featured five selected manuscripts on timely topics including AI-driven self-disclosure, service robot adoption, GenAI triage, algorithmic recommendations, and identity disclosure on service digital platforms.
These two events provided a wonderful opportunity for JSR to connect directly with Chinese scholars, introduce the journal’s editorial vision and review expectations, and highlight JSR’s interdisciplinary openness to high-impact service research across marketing, information systems, operations, healthcare, hospitality, digital platforms, and beyond. The discussions also emphasized JSR’s strong interest in cutting-edge topics, especially AI-enabled service, service technology, and digital transformation—areas that are increasingly central to service scholarship in China and around the world.
JSR is deeply grateful to all organizers, hosts, speakers, moderators, discussants, presenters, and participants who made these events so productive and memorable. We look forward to continuing to support the development of high-quality, theoretically meaningful, and globally relevant service research from scholars across China and the broader Asia-Pacific region.
