Theme: Beyond Digital: Redefining The Future of Service

Journal Editors:

Professor Ming-Hui Huang is a Distinguished University Professor and Distinguished Professor at the Department of Information Management, National Taiwan University and a Distinguished Research Fellow at the Center for Excellence in Service, University of Maryland, USA. She is the current Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Service Research.

Professor Roland Rust is a Distinguished University Professor and David Bruce Smith Chair in Marketing at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland. He is the founding editor and current Associate Editor of the Journal of Service Research and serves as the Vice President of Publications for the American Marketing Association (AMA).

Overall Aims:

  • Provide prospective authors with an understanding of what JSR seeks to publish and issues that might lead to rejection at JSR.
  • Encourage pre-submission interaction between JSR editors and potential authors toward alignment of their manuscripts with JSR priorities.
  • Establish a forum for editors to work with prospective authors on manuscripts that are in progress (working papers).
  • Support networking between scholars in the service discipline and sharing of original ideas.

Application Procedure:

  • To allow for constructive feedback and effective discussion, the number of paper presentations will be limited to a maximum of 8 papers. Participation in this PDW is by application only.
  • A 1000-word extended abstract should be submitted to DOSdirectors@rhul.ac.uk by 25 April 2025 with the subject line “JSR PDW 2025” in one single PDF file.
  • Please also indicate status of the paper (working paper, completed manuscript, etc.) and provide the full list of authors in the email (please do not disclose the authors’ name in the submitted pdf file).

Extended Abstract Submission

1000-word limit with a maximum of two pages (excluding appendixes, references, tables, figures) with the key elements below:

  • Problem statement: Clearly state the problem your research tackles and why it is important to service discipline and how it is relevant to this PDW theme (Beyond Digital: Redefining The Future of Service).
  • Methodology and key results: Briefly describe the methods used and summarize the key findings.
  • Theoretical contributions: Explicitly stating the key theoretical contributions to service literature.
  • Practical implications: Highlight the practical impacts of your research on relevant stakeholders (e.g. service providers, consumers, policy makers).

Timeline

25 April 2025: Deadline to submit a 1000-word extended abstract by email to DOSdirectors@rhul.ac.uk

5 May 2025: Notification of accepted papers via email (up to 8 papers will be accepted)

10 May 2025: Last day for accepted authors to confirm their attendance at the PDW

2 June 2025: Paper development workshop date
